Bodily injury liability

Bodily injury liability is the part of an auto policy that pays other people for injuries the insured driver causes, up to a limit per person and a larger limit per crash.

The two limits are the first two numbers in 30/60/25. The per-person figure caps what any one injured party recovers; the per-crash figure caps the total when more than one person is hurt, however many claimants there are.

It also pays the cost of defending the insured against a covered claim, which is a real benefit that never appears on a declarations page as a number.

Where the Texas minimum stops being enough is a coverage conversation rather than a definition, and it is on the auto insurance page.

Where this is handled

Knowing what a coverage is called is not the same as knowing what is on your policy. One independent agency can read your declarations page with you and compare the markets that will write your record.
