Proof of insurance
Proof of insurance is the evidence a Texas driver must be able to show on request that financial responsibility is established for the vehicle they are operating.
Section 601.053 requires an operator to produce it at the request of a peace officer or another party to a collision, and it names what counts — including the policy itself and a binder.
Operating without it is an offense under § 601.191, and a second or subsequent conviction for driving without liability insurance is one of the four events that can put a driver under an SR-22 requirement.
The card in a glovebox and an SR-22 are not the same document. One is shown to a person at the roadside; the other is transmitted by the carrier to the state and monitored there.

Where this is handled
Knowing what a coverage is called is not the same as knowing what is on your policy. One independent agency can read your declarations page with you and compare the markets that will write your record.
